Central Saxony trumps Hawaii

Eric Rosenfeld was born in Los Angeles and spent the last 15 years as a DJ and tourist guide on Hawaii. The 48-year-old has always been a traveller and now he’s left the island paradise to live in Central Saxony. What drew him here first were the lovely landscapes and the romantic old towns he discovered while he was here on vacation. “Those narrow lanes and picturesque houses – we don’t have anything like it in the US.” says Rosenfeld.

With the help of online tutorials he learned German and found himself a place in Falkenau. While looking for a place to print some documents, by chance he stumbled into the office of the local newspaper which immediately published an article about the foreign newcomer. This article caught the attention of two regional schools, which approached him to find out if he might be interested in working for them. He certainly was and so before long arrangements were made, and now Rosenfeld has a new job as language teacher in Niederwürschnitz.
