Hamid started his apprenticeship at SEIWO Technik GmbH in Scharfenstein in 2019. The company builds museum equipment, creates advertising technology and sets up stages, among other things. Hamid is learning the carpentry trade at SEIWO.
Hello Hamid! You are currently training to be a carpenter. What did it look like before your training - when did you come to Germany and what was it like for you?
I came to Germany in 2015. First I attended a German course for three months. After that, I did various internships, for example in the automotive sector or as a carpenter. In the end, however, I decided to train as a carpenter.
Why did you decide to train as a carpenter in the end?
I had already worked as a carpenter for a year in my home country. But there is no training there. That's why I want to do it here now.
How do you get along with the dual system, i.e. the change between vocational school and the training system?
The change between vocational school and company is ok, but the vocational school is a bit difficult. But if I don't understand something or need help, I always get help in the company.
What do you enjoy most about your training at SEIWO Technik GmbH?
Everything! The work, the colleagues, the supervisors, the company - I have a lot of fun here!
What I like most is sawing or assembling individual parts. Painting is also fun!
It's really varied here. At SEIWO we actually only build prototypes, not series production. That's why no two days are the same.
What are your plans after the apprenticeship?
First of all, I would like to pass my apprenticeship. After that I would like to do further training - but I don't know which one yet.
Have you settled in well here in the region? How do you spend your free time in Annaberg-Buchholz?
The beginning was difficult because I didn't know the language. But in the meantime I have learned German and now I feel very comfortable here. I like living here. In my free time I like to play volleyball, go to the gym or do things with my friends. Right now I'm getting my driving licence, so everything will be a bit easier. At the moment, I still ride the train a lot or stay with friends.
What advice do you have for other young people abroad who are thinking about an education in Saxony?
Pursue your goal. Here you can really achieve anything you want!
Now that's a closing sentence! Thank you for the interview Hamid!
